A Bitsy Tour
A Bitsy Tour
or
What can Bitsy do?
Let's find out!
If you're interested in making your own games with Bitsy Game Maker, this little tour will show you the basics of what this fun, little game engine can do!
This isn't really a game. Don't play it for entertainment. It's goal is just to go through it. It's more like a little fun house to explore Bitsy's basic functionality.
Playing it will illustrate some of the basic concepts you'll need to master. It's not so much of a tutorial, as it is a demonstration of how some things are done in Bitsy. There isn't much hand-holding and explanation. There are already sources of that information such as Bitsy's docs; however, if you download the source .bitsy file you can see how things work on your own. (Made in Bitsy version 8.14.)
Why is this here?
I created this to use for my 4-H Bitsy project to show what sorts of things make up a Bitsy game, so that they have some sort of reference point. This exposes them to the range of basic capabilities, and also the constraints. (It's actually Bitsy's constraints that make it good for kids as it forces them to make a project that can actually be finished and playable.)
At least in my part of the world, 4-Hers haven't typically been exposed to Bitsy before. Most games they've played are probably more complex and less narrative in nature.
Maybe this will help others who want to learn how to use Bitsy.
Have fun making games!
